Sunday 6/26/16 Baptisms and Antelope
Countryside Church in a newer subdivision and a new building have lots of attendees. Songs were led by folks not to likely to be nominated to be at the Metropolitan. One man seemed to be from a biker gang except there was no leather. Quite sincere.
At first it looked like many were younger but then we also saw some older folks. It was soon announced that baptism was the main part. Apparently a number of visitors were in attendance. After the sermon explaining baptism four lined up - aged from about 12 to 70-some. They had strong testimonies of how their journey led them to this Sunday. Very honest and open stories. No false pretenses. Just pure changed lives.
One man missing was not baptized since he had to be on duty at the forest fire. Smoke still wafting thru the area. Helicopters and fixed wing water bombers were hot on the fire. They circled and dropped their loads quickly.
Grabbed a hot cuppa coffee and we're on the way. Cutting across the more arid ranch land away from the freeway into Montana. Very soon the first of many antelope was sighted. Also a fox and what looked like a badger road kill. Lots of grazing cattle and later some irrigated land with corn and hay. Had a stretch of road construction with pavement removed so dirt road it is. Finally a small burg with a cafe. Pit stop. Locals not rushed and visiting. Rodeo starts this afternoon.
More country roads into the small town of Glendive along the Yellowstone River. Found our motel and rest ahead. Also more off freeway travels tomorrow. Country roads give a better view of locals and ranching.
