Glossy Ibis: Front Yard
Today we were visited by several Glossy Ibis. New to me but a nice bird. Feeding diligently on worms or grubs by probing with their long curved bills.
Three made their appearance
Very dark with quite a glossy coat with sunshine
Likely more prevalent on beaches feeding on crayfish, crabs,
and water snakes. According to birding books the species occurs
in the Old World and evidence suggests it introduced itself
into North America in the 1800's.
Greatly increased during the 20th Century.
Fascinating to see them inland and not easily flushed.
