Woodbutcher ......

Two years ago we celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary.  The focus: travel to Alaska.
Driving would make for sight-seeing. Plus we could visit friends along the way. So loading up our old 1998 conversion van (well at least partially so) we headed out.

To look for wood was a given. But not just any species or a regular cut. It had to be something out of the ordinary.  One stop in the Yukon we found a young man harvesting burls from the ubiquitous Birch.  Presto!  A small one was not too expensive.

It has had two years to dry.

Just the size to form a nice goblet.  Burls are always interesting and challenging.

                                                  The grain is unpredictable
                                                         Colorful
                                                              Never uninteresting
                                                                     Not perfection
                                                  Like life
                                                        Twists and turns
                                                               Opportunities
                                                                      Unknown

What will you do when God allows a road closure?  Or a road ending in the woods...

An unexpected right turn or rain to cover the one that goes straight for miles?

   Decision time.  Turn around?

Take an alternate route which gives no real clue on the destination......

   Pray?

   Psalm 1
